Which Airport?

Here are some information to choose the right airport for you. Then you can decide which type of transfer, depending on the time of arrival and your needs:

  • Our nearest international airport is El Catey SAMANA (AZS) at 1 hour from here. It receives regular flights from Canada (Toronto and Montreal with Air Canada, WestJet, Canadair) and occasionally by other American and European companies.
Possible transfer by taxi and car. Local public transportation is available only outside of the airport (25’min. walking away)
  • The second best airport (with more opportunities for all kinds of flights from the Americas and Europe) is SANTO DOMINGO (SDQ), about 3 hours away.
Possible transfer by taxi, car and comfortable buses from nearby stations at the airport, even in a day (last one at 5:00pm).
  • As third option, take a look also to PUERTO PLATA (POP) and SANTIAGO (STI) with many international flights, 4 hours away.
Possible transfer by taxi and car; few transfers by buses. Is recommendable staying close to the airport if you arrive in the late afternoon.
  • Let LA ROMANA (LRM) and PUNTA CANA (PUJ) as last options, as they are the most distant airports, with 4-6 hours of journey (although, obviously, they are as good as the others … considering that they often have the cheapest flights, due to the large hotel offer in the area). Therefore we recommend staying close to the airport if you arrive in the late afternoon.

Possible transfer by taxi, car, bus and / or bus-ferry. The ferry does not provide auto transport, it is only for passengers.

What is the best time to visit Las Galeras?

… there is not!! … meaning that every moment of the year may be suitable for your stay!
The local temperature is constantly between 75 and 95 F degrees (just changes the humidity, which can be felt a little more occasionally between July and October) and the weather is constantly sunny during the whole year. A sudden storm-shower or a tropical storm (a hurricane, only in the worst of the case), is something that can happen at any time of the year, and typically does not last more than 48 hours …. so that you can think to enjoy good weather at any time of both high and low season (with a difference which is not related on the weather, but only commercial, as it depends on the holidays and on the passage of Humpback Whales during our winter months).
That’s why a stay a bit longer can avoid you the misfortune of not finding a pleasant weather during your stay.
Ah …well, please note: the WEATHER FORECASTS in these areas are NOT EVER RELIABLE!
So, please, do not get panic with no reasons!
